Update/Snow Squad!

Well hey folks! I know, I know…it’s been months since the adventure ended and still some of the best bits of the trip remain unedited! So what happened? I got myself an actual job and threw myself into experiencing all the awesomeness that is Carrabassett Valley in the rural western mountains of Maine. The videos on this site led directly to me getting said job, so that’s pretty sweet.

As the Snow Reporter at Sugarloaf Mountain I got to ski everyday, write up the snow report, record the snow phone, make guest appearances on the local tv station, twitter, blog, facebook, take tons of photos on mountain and make lots and lots of videos. Sound like the best job ever? It totally was. Which is why I want to continue the trend by joining the Snow Squad at Vail! I had myself a fantastic time in Maine but when Miss Lizzy Reinholt sent me the link to this awesome opportunity I figured I couldn’t pass up the chance to rip the much lauded Colorado powder.

Thanks again for all your support and nagging to finish the Vagabondblue videos. I’m especially looking forward to cutting together New Orleans, which was a really sobering but amazing experience.  First, though, I’m off to travel around for a few weeks and visit my buddies who I’ve neglected all winter plus attend all your dang weddings. I’m also plotting a hike in Morocco in May with my dad so will let you know if I get a blog going for that.

Still alive.

Well hey folks!  So technically the jetBlue adventure ended Thursday, but that doesn’t mean that the videos have also stopped – in fact, I still have about half my trip to edit together.  And there’s some excellent adventures in there, I tell you what.  Keep checking in for more videos over the next few weeks!

From the trenches

Day four with no reliable source of wireless internet. In the wilds of the Southern portions of the US I was forced into nearly complete radio silence.  First came the red-eye that dropped me into the humid stank Ft. Lauderdale (beautiful city by the way).  Struggling through the heat and sweat of the early morning haze I somehow navigated my way to the pool at the hostel. 

Soon thereafter I was led on a forced march by a gung-ho Aussie freshly arrived from her homeland.  She obviously was undeterred by the extreme heat due to all those Walkabouts in the Australian Outback.  After taking sustenance in a sweet local nectar they call a “Carmel Macchiato” we navigated through the rugged shops of Las Olas street to the beach.  There we encountered herds of natives in their traditional attire of neon thongs.  Though this may have come as a disturbing sight to a less road-weary traveler, my countless days of travel (20) have steeled me for such displays of strange local attire.

Upon returning to my primitive lodgings, I found that the wireless was incompatible with my laptop and so was forced to delay the next video’s upload.  Slightly dismayed, I reasoned that surely I would get a fast internet connection while staying with my CouchSurfing contact in Richmond the next day.  Again, an expectation rooted in my West Coast elitist ignorance. 

And so it is that a week has passed with no video.  Forced into this Amish-like disconnect from the modern comforts of technology, I have been unable to deliver the goods to the VagabondBlue website.  The din of expectant viewers (okay, my mother) has grown deafening but not to worry.  I’ve finally entered back into civilization aka Denver and can use my friend Melissa’s internet connection to make the next upload. So look out for Chicago/DC followed shortly thereafter by Houston!! Yeehaw!
